Wedding Invites

So it's the first time this has happened, be asked to make invitations that is, not go to a wedding. Coz I've been invited to heaps of weddings because I'm so totally awesome and popular and everything. Uh, anyways! A friend asked me to make her wedding invitations, so I did! They are below, have a look. The wording isn't finalised yet, still in concept stage but I'm so stoked at how they turned out :)

Don't Cry Spock

Once upon a time there was this dude named Spock aka Mr Spock. He's not really real, but still a pretty interesting kind of bloke. His hobbies include pinching people on the neck and boldly going where no man has gone before. He has these ears which are pointy, the pointy bits don't really serve any practical function I don't think, they are just decoration for his face. Anyways, he is a pretty cool looking and interesting character so I made a picture.

A couple more, the second one illustrates mankind's desire to accumulate wealth and material possessions, often to the point of obsession where they will step over anyone and sacrifice a stress-free life for selfish pursuits, just to realise when it's too late that they are old and their life's work was a vain and pointless exercise, like trying to catch the wind.

The Fall Of Icarus

Icarus: Have you heard about this guy? Cool story.

Icarus' father Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the islandof Crete, Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms. And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos.

Ignoring Reality

Here is something I made over the weekend and really love it, I think I'll explore this idea a little more, make a series of them or something. Ink on 150gsm paper. It's hanging in Honeypot cafe at the mo! So if you're in the area, go get a coffee and stare at this painting hard-out, someone might see you looking and say "wow, people like to look at that, perhaps I'll buy it for my wall to make my house a little more interesting".

The Futile Pursuit

So we have been renovating our bathroom over the past few weeks and I have been totally distracted from creative things, which sucks a little bit. I'm tired of thinking about measurements, straight lines and angles, time and temperature... I need to start thinking about squiggles, craziness, randomness and general fun-ness again!

Sometimes there are things in life that you want, but can never have, perhaps it's something totally of your reach or something that you shouldn't want. Anyway, these things can occupy your mind to the point where you might become obsessed, and the pursuit of it becomes a total waste of time. I added the lyrics of this awesome Daft Punk song that I happen to like:
