Treasures on Earth

A couple more, the second one illustrates mankind's desire to accumulate wealth and material possessions, often to the point of obsession where they will step over anyone and sacrifice a stress-free life for selfish pursuits, just to realise when it's too late that they are old and their life's work was a vain and pointless exercise, like trying to catch the wind.

The Fall Of Icarus

Icarus: Have you heard about this guy? Cool story.

Icarus' father Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the islandof Crete, Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms. And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos.

Ignoring Reality

Here is something I made over the weekend and really love it, I think I'll explore this idea a little more, make a series of them or something. Ink on 150gsm paper. It's hanging in Honeypot cafe at the mo! So if you're in the area, go get a coffee and stare at this painting hard-out, someone might see you looking and say "wow, people like to look at that, perhaps I'll buy it for my wall to make my house a little more interesting".

Nicki's Cupcakes

A work colleague is going on maternity leave soon, she's like, a totally awesome chick because she often bakes for us all. Her cupcakes are the best! So, I made her an illustration.

It Happened That Day

So that stuff I wrote a few weeks back, I drew a picture, and then wrote that stuff on the picture. It's ink, which is that thing I like right now, it is like, the coolest.

Did I ever mention that I love ink? Well, I love ink, it is the funnest!

The Futile Pursuit

So we have been renovating our bathroom over the past few weeks and I have been totally distracted from creative things, which sucks a little bit. I'm tired of thinking about measurements, straight lines and angles, time and temperature... I need to start thinking about squiggles, craziness, randomness and general fun-ness again!

Sometimes there are things in life that you want, but can never have, perhaps it's something totally of your reach or something that you shouldn't want. Anyway, these things can occupy your mind to the point where you might become obsessed, and the pursuit of it becomes a total waste of time. I added the lyrics of this awesome Daft Punk song that I happen to like:

I need you more than anything in my life
I want you more than anything in my life
I miss you more than anyone in my life
I love you more than anyone in my life

SSSPG

So this dude at work says to me 'make up a super hero and I'll make up a super villan, then we can write a comic about them or something!' So I said 'ok!' Here is my super hero character. Mr SSSPG.

Pang of the Progenitor

This is about age catching up on people, changing their perspective on life which can lead them to regret things they have done, or haven't done. Oh man, why can't life just be like a box of fluffy cute happy things all the time?

Judge Steampunk

Oh man, character creation is fun! Writing a backstory for them and drawing pictures and stuff. Here is one of my fav's, he's a steam powered robot inspired by Steampunk theme.

I enjoy the odd single malt whiskey and can never bring myself to throw out the bottles because they're so darn cool. So I made label for a few of them, like this:

It Happened That Day

So, I'm not a poet and most of the time I totally don't get poetry. But sometimes I assemble these words in my head that carry a lot of meaning for me. Here is something I wrote down yesterday. Eventually I'll try and incorporate this with a picture.

It happened that day,
that late autumn day.

I remember that day
as the leaves fell like rain.
I sat in the sunshine,
to help warm the pain.
But all of a sudden,
the clouds came again.
The clouds came again...
And the wind threw those leaves.
Sometimes distant memories
seem too much like dreams.
Too much like dreams.
Like that late autumn day.

Alpha Curse

A mate and I recently went on a wee roadtrip down south to see a friends exhibition.
Anyways, we got talking about super-deep things on the ride home. Are humans generally good beings that are capable of evil, or generally evil but capable of good?

Coffee - The Worlds Greatest Invention

I've found a couple of truly helpful and also interesting websites:
There are so many awesome artists out there! I am totally jealous of their skills. This site posts interviews with some of these talented folk, talking about their art and the tools they like to use. I don't consider myself an artist, more of an illustrator kind of guy...
Another neat place to visit sometime, talking about comic tools etc, there is a great interview with Quentin Blake there at the mo.

February Again

So, it seems that I get migraines in February. Weird eh?! I think I must be in tune with the aligning of the planets or something, some kind of galactic event happens every February that my mind is sensitive to, and as a result it feels like my head is exploding! That's my theory anyway.

Another painting, a little more detail than the last (but just a little!)
I wont tell you what it's about, I'll let your super awesome imagination and supremely ultimate powers of deduction do that for you.

Project Solve

“Brendan Scanlon was an artist in Chicago who went by the name ‘Solve,’” write friends and family of the artist. “He was stabbed to death last June by Kirk Tobolski. It has been a devastating event for those of us who knew him. One thing we are doing to help ourselves deal with it is to try and spread his name far and wide.”

So, I took part in this project, I contacted these guys and they sent me Solve stickers. Here is where I put them. The link below takes you to the results map, check out New Zealand!
